Patent Protection And Affordable Care Act

First of all we should try to understand Obamacare and his broad prescription for the health of American people. Obamacare is officially called (PPACA) Patent Protection And Affordable Care Act. But it is popularly called ACA (Affordable Care Act). It gives Americans more rights and protections and therefore makes it affordable for them.

Supreme Court Ruling

The Supreme Court rulings change it and gave the option to states either to implement it or opt out of the implementation. Obamacare makes it mandatory for Americans by 2014 and if they don’t do so they will have to pay a monthly fee without minimum essential coverage. It was declared a mandate but the Supreme Court in its ruling declared it as a Tax and not a mandate by June 28, 2012. According to Obamacare open enrolment for 2016 ended on January 31st, 2016; and open enrolment for 2017 starts from November 1st 2016, and closes on 31st January 2017. The ACA was made a law to deal with national healthcare and make insurance more affordable for the millions of uninsured Americans.

ACA

The ACA requires that all Americans should purchase a Private Health Care Plan. It also says that those Americans who cannot afford health insurance are expected to hold Medicare. And if they can’t afford it, they should try to get help from Health Insurances Exchanges (AKA Market Place). If still you can’t afford it and if it’s more than 8% of your income you may get exemption from Individual Mandate.

Benefits And Cost Assistance

In Obama Health Plan there is a ceiling on the maximum expenses you are required to pay to a doctor. Only this limited amount you will have to pay out of your pocket and the rest will be paid by the insurance company or the state, whatever the case maybe.

Premium Tax Credits

Cost Sharing Reduction subsidies (CSR) to lower your out-of-pocket costs and includes Medicaid and CHIP. The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides health coverage to eligible children, through both Medicaid and separate CHIP programs. CHIP is administered by states, according to federal requirements. The program is funded jointly by states and the federal government.

Affordable Insurance

Obamacare has placed insurance within the reach of 44 million Americans who do not hold health insurance and are covered under the healthcare law. It has broadened the scope of insurance and includes now improved preventive care, women’s health services and improved care for seniors and a really enviable package for the poorest. But it’s regrettable to say that it does not include mental health which is now more pervasive in the American society and the world generally. Hyper Technical

Obamacare is too burdensome to be implemented in both letter and spirit. It’s most likely to confuse the ordinary American because the level of education they have, it’s beyond their easy comprehension and at certain stage it is bound to involve the services of a lawyer. This will be an additional financial burden on the layman and instead of appreciating Obamacare, he will most probably condemn the Obama package, especially its confusing and over technical phraseology.

Trump’s Caution

Donald Trump, in his initial euphoria of being elected the president of the USA has tried to play down Obamacare about the physical health of the Americans. It will be foolhardy on his part to discard Obamacare and it will be even foolhardier to replace it by Trumpcare. Donald Trump, the President-elect, is fortunate to present his own package because both the House of Representatives and the congress have republican majority. But since American voters, whether they are elected or ordinary people, go by their individual preference rather than follow the pack, are expected to go against Trump. And one can recall the initial adverse reaction of quite a few important republicans to Trump’s nomination. So Trump is advised to step forward with some caution keeping in view the anti-demonstrations against him even before he has taken over the presidency from Mr. Obama.
